EXTRAORDINARY CIVIL WAR, CASED WHITWORTH PERCUSSION TARGET OR SNIPER RIFLE IN 50 CALIBER
Overall cond of this gun is absolutely extraordinary with all the vivid case colors, exc markings, wood is absolutely untouched, the case is in perfect cond with the Whitworth trade label in the lid and contains numerous compartments; some covered, some exposed. Many accoutrements such as molds, loading tools, powder flask, wads, etc accompany this gun, all of which are in as-new cond. Whitworth was know for his accuracy and was quite sought after by the Confederate Army for sniper rifles. Marked on the top flats of the bbl is ‘Samuel Ebrall’ and engraved on the bbl is ‘Rifled by Lord Berwick’, right side of stock also has the makers name ‘Samuel Ebrall Maker Shrewsbury’. Accompanying this rifle is a copy of the British patent dated 1860 granting the right to the Honorable Richard Lord Berwick for improvements in rifling; which in this gun are similar to Medford’s style of rifling and is quite unique and known for it’s accuracy I understand. All pieces and parts of this gun are very delicately fine line engraved. Just a beautiful gun in outstanding condition.
