(W42a-17-63) WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 DELUXE SCHUETZEN RIFLE
Caliber .22 Short. Original 28" #3 full octagon bbl, with vernier folding tang sight, excellent bore. Original 3X grade pistol grip checkered Schuetzen style stock is in excellent condition with most orig lacquer intact, helm buttplate and Dutch pattern cheekpiece. Overall gun is exc with 98% orig bbl blue, 75-80% bright vivid case colors. The Schuetzen rifles with a case colored frame are really quite unusual, they're generally later guns than that; complete with Factory Letter of Authenticity which states, 'no rear sight seat' but this has got a sight dovetail for a rear sight-probably an oversight or somebody put it in at a later time. If that's the case, they did a perfect job. Formerly in the Eldon Owens collection. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

(9210-16-189) BROWNING MODEL 1878 SINGLE SHOT LONG RIFLE
One of the original Browning manufactured High Wall rifles, has a 32" heavy weight bbl measuring just over an 1-1/8" at the muzzle, caliber 50. Fairly good, shootable bore with deep rifling. The stock has a repair at the wrist done quite some time ago and it sounds solid there. The forearm is missing a sliver of wood on the left hand side from front to back. Probably 1/8" high and full length of the forearm. Original sights, I believe. Looks like a Freund sight with a wooden riser added. Rifle style buttplate. Overall metal is mostly a plum-brown patina coloration with sharp corners. Nice functioning action. The bbl has a hole in it about 1/16" deep. Unknown what that would be for. Other than that, it is a correct, all original gun. 200 range serial number. Hard to find. I have not had one of these in over 25 years. This is a better than average example. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

Winchester 1885
(7004a-18-88) ONE-OF-A-KIND WINCHESTER 1885 'INTERNATIONAL MATCH' HIGH WALL TARGET RIFLE
Extremely rare Caliber 30-06 Rimmed. The only known example of this cartridge accompanies this gun. The muzzle of the 28" #3 round bbl has been uniquely ported. The workmanship has been attributed to the Winchester factory overseen by A.L. Landensack who was a Winchester engineer. Landensack also conceived the idea of an 'International Match Rifle'. Of the six Match Rifles made, this is the only one in 30-06 Rimmed Caliber, as well as the only one with a ported bbl. There are six holes that go straight back from the muzzle end about 1-3/4", then they curve and enter the bore just behind the muzzle. The idea is to relieve the pressure that is pushing the bullet down the bore. In doing so, they felt that the gas would be less apt to unstabilize the bullet when it was passing out around the bullet at the muzzle if the gas had already exited from the bore. Whether it worked or not, I don't know. It's a very interesting concept. This gun has one of the longest letters I've ever seen on a High Wall: apparently it had a Landensack style cork forend with a covered topwood and Schuetzen style stock which has been changed; it now has a typical High Wall musket stock and a Winchester forearm both of which look right on the gun. The Letter lists all these features plus things such as a safety lock devise on the hammer, a fly to leave hammer at full cock and many more. Very interesting gun with a number of extra features. It's fitted with an A-5 scope which has excellent optics, rear sight is a folding tang which appears to be some type of a Pope configuration and globe front sight. Gun is in fine cond with basically 95% overall orig blue, good case colors on the hammer and lever, Winchester stocks are in exc cond. Very probable that this is the only 30-06 Rimmed High Wall ever manufactured-experts in the field claim this is the only example of a 30-06 Rimmed cartridge accompanying this gun that has surfaced to date. A great find! ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e
