Serial number is 14827 and is marked on all the correct spots on the inside of the gun. Receiver has a pale yellow coloration-appears to have been cleaned at one time but has since started to turn dark, good sharp corners, no noticable dings or mars. Bbl and mag mostly plum brownish with some cleaning on the tube, faint traces of the bbl address are still present, correct sights. Orig wood has a few dings and mars but is sound and solid with correct matching numbers, no splits or cracks. (8749-17-194) WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 1st MODEL FLAT SIDE SADDLERING CARBINE

Serial number is 13,936. It appears there were some tacks imbedded in the forearm which have been removed a long time ago, buttstock looks good-shows alot of saddlering wear on the side and looks to be a very old replacement. Overall gun shows a fair amount of wear with somewhat rounded corners, the receiver has a real nice, deep butterscotch patina coloration, bbl is mostly a bluish brown patina. Colorful old gun; apparently it came out of Mexico and looks like it's got some homemade type sling swivels on it, correct sights, nice functioning action, correct saddlering. If Madis would have called these Henry Carbines, they'd probably bring about ten times what they're selling for today, however, it's still a rare gun and has a good premium-this is the first 1st Model flat side carbine I've had in probably 10 years. A decent gun. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

(16-307) ELABORATELY ENGRAVED 66 WINCHESTER AND HENRY PAIR

This pair of guns are on consignment to us from a California collection. They were formerly in the H. Ball collection for the last 60 years and were recently sold to another collector on the West Coast. These guns were part of the award winning gun show display that was called 'Fort Winchester'. Both guns compliment each other beautifully; one is a factory engraved Henry with the engraving attributed to Hoggson. This is very typical of his work-he was the factory engraver that did most the Henry rifles and was quite accomplished in his field; 5,3XX serial number range with fancy wood. The other one is a factory engraved 66 Winchester done by John Ulrich who was Winchesters premier engraver of the period and one of 7 Ulrich engravers; in the 36,XXX range with fancy wood as well; slight repair at the toe. Both have a beautiful very deep butterscotchy brass patina coloration on the receivers. The 66 retains a considerable amount of orig blue; traces of blue on the Henry. Both exhibit some of the finest deepest patina that I've seen on a pair of guns for a number of years. Beautiful inside and out. Guns are to be sold as a pair as per the consignors wishes or the Henry alone but he prefers to sell them as a pair. Quite simply...THE ONLY (CLOSE TO) MATCHED PAIR EVER OFFERED! ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

Receiver is untouched and is a fairly dark mustard yellow color. Fairly clean little gun. All orig. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

(W1000-17-319) SPECTACULAR NIMSCHKE ENGRAVED 1866 RIFLE

Cal 44 rimfire. This gun is in the 28,XXX serial range and is pictured on page 56 of the Winchester Engraving book. This gun is one of the finest engraved 66's that have surfaced to date. Accompanying this gun is a letter from a previous owner dated October 31, 1950 to Winchester. The guy who was in possession of it assumed that it was a One of One Thousand. He wrote Winchester asking for details and they informed him it was not a 1 of 1000; interesting little note that accompanies the gun. It is believed that the lady engraved in the oval panel on the left side of the receiver is the same likeness as the Bust of Columbia which appears the 15 cent US fractional currency note. Both are believed to have been done by the hand of Nimschke. A spectacular gun in extraordinary condition with 90% bright glossy blue, fine case colors on the hammer and lever. Piano style glossy finish stock in excellent condition with only a few minor handling marks. Rifle style buttplate is also engraved. Receiver was originally gold gilded with a considerable amount of gold remaining in the engraving cuts. When light hits the receiver, the gold really stands out. This is a SPECTACULAR gun! The balance of receiver coloration is a beautiful aged butterscotch patina. This gun has been in a number of very famous collections. Shortly after it was discovered by Winchester from the earlier mentioned owner, it became the property of Elmer Taylor, a well known West Coast gun collector. Then more recently for about 30 years it was in the collection of Doug Bennett, a California collector who displayed this gun in a number of shows with his award winning Winchesters and Henrys. Then it went to Wes Adams who owned it briefly. Adams owned the finest Winchester collection in the past 50 years but has since passed on. An outstanding gun! Guaranteed original and untouched complete with a 15 cent note. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e
