Receiver turned mostly dark on right side and forward area of left-balance is a nickelly gray patina; sharp scroll and vine engraving with a hunter and dog scene on left side. Interesting that right side is marked 'Spencer Arm Co.' (without patent date). Engraving appears to be done by the New York master Louis D. Nimschke-quite elaborate. SN 1 is present on numerous parts throughout the gun. Of further interest is that the barrel bears the Model 1886 type address, the cond matches the rest of the gun perfectly and it appears no alterations have been made. VG walnut, short non-checkered pump handle, checkering on pistol grip somewhat worn; otherwise VG+ walnut. The carrier's forward area is of a different design than seen on other 1884's, etc.; the slot is very short. VG shiny bore with a few pits. Interesting Spencer; possibly one-of-a-kind.

MSG843 ITHACA SINGLE BARREL TRAP
Item # MSG843
Grade 5 Flues model. Early gun made in the mid teens in 12 ga. 34" vent rib bbl. What is really nice about these early Ithaca's is they had very heavy walled bbls. Choking is full as with most of these single bbl traps. Beautiful bright shiny bore. Exterior has 90%+ of what I believe is an excellent re-blue? Receiver is mostly grey with some case colors showing. Very nice case colors in protected areas. Full coverage engraving with bird scenes on the side and the Eagle on the bottom of the receiver. On the later single bbl traps the Eagle was on the side. Wood is also very nice as re-varnished. LOP is 14-1/8" to the end of Pachmayr recoil pad. These guns are timeless. They will always be a premier trap gun. They were nearly 100 years ago and can still fill that role today.
Modern $ 2,375.

Lock up is solid and tight. Receiver has most case colors remaining although they have dimmed somewhat. Nice scenes. This one has an Indian on the right side and the trap shooter on the left side. Some custom work has been done to the stock where a knob was put on the pistol grip. Also there were spacers added and a Young and Co. recoil pad. LOP is 14-1/8". Semi-dlx wood with nice checkering on both buttstock and forearm. Normal handling marks but good overall condition. Equipped with a working ejector. This would make a very fine trap gun still today.
Modern $ 2,100.

The center bead has been taken off and the front bead has been changed. Just over the 400k serial range. Receiver is mostly a silver/grey color with some case colors still remaining. Lock up is nice and solid. This one has the Eagle on the right side and the standard engraving of the trap shooter on the left side. Buttstock is a nicely done custom piece with a roll-over Monte Carlo of deluxe wood. A Decelerator pad and a couple of spacers have been added to make the LOP 14-1/14". Forearm appears to be a standard piece of wood that was freshened at the time of the custom stock work. Shotgun is just waiting to bust many more clay pigeons!

MSG814 L.C. SMITH IDEAL GRADE
Item # MSG814
This is a 12 Ga. ejector gun with 30" bbls choked full and mod. Nice bright shiny bore is near excellent. Bbls have most blue with some thinning. Thinning is most evident at the muzzle and carry point towards frame. The frame exhibits some case coloring with the balance turning an aging grey. Forearm and buttstock wood color does not match. Likely one or the other was changed. Probably the forearm because the in letting around the forearm release does not look quite right. Wood is good condition. Nice solid lockup-a trait that L.C. Smith was noted for. This was some ones hunting gun and was used quite a bit but well cared for. The Ideal grade was probably the "Ideal" SxS! Fairly priced.
Modern $ 1,195.
MSG811 BEAUTIFUL CASE COLORED L.C. SMITH
Item # MSG811
L. C. Smith is noted for it's rich case colors and this one really shows that off! To top that, this is the L.C. Smith Featherweight. Very light wear to the case colors right at the carry point. Not only the case colors but the protective factory coating is still present. Nearly all the blue remains on the trigger guard and bbl. Bores are excellent. Wood is also in VG cond. There is some "alligatoring" to the wood finish for some reason? Checkering is sharp and nice. A very "low millage" Classic American 12 Ga. shotgun!
Modern $ 2,275.
MSG836 SCARCE SPENCER CONVERSION SMOOTH BORE
Item # MSG836
The bore diameter is about 16 ga. Chamber much smaller than a 16 ga as is the mag tube. I don't know if they used the regular Spencer cartridges with shot or what? Was this factory done or done after the fact? Bbl is 28" and does have shotgun bead. No other type of sights were on this gun. Bbl was specifically made as a shotgun bbl. Other modifications are the sling bar has been removed. Another oddity is that the forearm was made specifically for this bbl which would tend to make one think it was a factory job. Nice condition Spencer with thinning blue on the bbl. A couple of grey spots. The receiver has nearly all the blue which looks like it was done when the gun was modified. If that is the case, there are no markings on the receiver bridge as you would normally see. There is a serial number in the hammer area of 13727. The Stabler cut off is still in place. A very unique Spencer!
Antique $ 1,695.
